Caffeine Yes or No?

I am so tired lately.  And its not because I'm killing myself all day long working on the house.  Its mostly due to my medicine, it makes me tired, and I haven't been sleeping very well.  So I am exhausted all day and end up taking several mini naps just to function.  So here is my dilema - drink caffinated soda to help stay awake or find some other method?  The only caffinated soda that I like is Mountain Dew.  I try to only drink it on long car trips, and I justify that as medicinal purposes for the safety of my family.  But I am torn about drinking it at home.  I know some people say that Mormons are aloud to drink caffinated soda, but I don't think we should, except for the previously stated reason.  So what should I do?  Does anybody know of anything else I could drink or eat that will help me stay awake? And don't tell me to go to bed earlier.  I'm already sleeping 9 hours at night, its just fitful sleep, and I'm stil EXHAUSTED!!!!  HELP PLEASE!  I want everybody's opinion!!

Orange juice. Lots of orange juice. Apple juice works too. And they're both good hot, I promise.

I am NOT a fan of soda in general-caffinated or not.
A couple years ago, I was super tired...I would get out of bed and do just a few things and become totally exhausted and need a nap. Long story short, I ended up getting my blood drawn to see if something was out of wack. Turns out that my B12 was very low..so now I take 1000mg if B12 daily...what a difference.
Maybe you could get your blood drawn to see if you are anemic or something.

Are you taking a daily vitamin supplement? That is what I was going to suggest, and it looks like Jacque and Sara are kind of on the same path, although the juice will give you vitamins but also lots and lots of sugar.

Sara is right, B12 can give you energy. The energy drinks on the market that are not caffeinated are full of B12. And it is a water-soluble vitamin, so you can't overdose on it.

Also, moderate exercise. It can do wonders.

Hot orange juice? Interesting.

I had no idea you felt that way about caffeine. I thought you just didn't like soda. What about chocolate having caffeine? Just curious.

I heard that eating an apple is the same as drinking a cup of coffee. Couldn't hurt!

I learned in phsycology that the buzz from caffeine only works 15 minutes (per one cup of coffee), and then you go down further than you were before, energy wise. I'm pretty sure that'strue :)

Exercise. It will be very tiring at first, but done consistently will give you great energy.

Are you taking your medicine in the morning or at night? If you take it at night rather than the morning that may help.

b12 and b6 work great. I've always been a caffeine drinker, but I would rather not. I just have to drink diet, and about the only decent drinks have caffeine! I would suggest trying a health food store for ideas, or GNC in the mall. They've always had good stuff/ideas for me.

I have been recommended to try certain things with chromium in them, but it makes me very jittery. It's in almost all multi vitamins.

Another thing you can try is limiting your carbs....not by a lot, but if you just "limit" your carb intake, your energy will increase and you wont have the hills and valleys of energy. Also, drinking LOTS of water helps.

Hpe these few things help! Mel

What you eat can really affect your energy level - so try to avoid junk food and increase your protien intake. Excercise can help a lot along with keeping hydrated and a good multi-vitamin. I like the womens ultra mega active from GNC. I think it's best to avoid caffine or any other chemical stimulant, because it is typically short-lived and then you crash. But if you do want some kind of energy supplement I've heard FRS is pretty good.

Hey Grace, just got updated on all your posts, I have been out of the blog world. First, you are so brave to admit depression, so many people have it and don't want to face it, good for you!! Next, the caffine thing, don't go that route, the fact that you are even questioning is your answer. I hate to say this, but exercise would help you a ton. I don't know if you are already doing that, but I know for me when I just feel off and tired it has everything to do with how well I am taking care of my body physically. SOrry to rant. Hope this helps and you are doing better.
